Being Remarkable
Seth Godin recently posted 10 tips on “How to be remarkable“. Overall, this is really great advice and an inspiring post. For some reason tip #3 got my attention and made me laugh out loud.
3. Being noticed is not the same as being remarkable. Running down the street naked will get you noticed, but it won’t accomplish much. It’s easy to pull off a stunt, but not useful.
I’m not one to bash the whole Web 2.0 phenomenon…. but Web 2.0 was the first thing I thought of as soon as I read this.

Actually I would say that today’s media are indifferent to the subtle distinction between notoriety and accomplishment. Witness the fact that a newspaper editor who got sacked for publishing made-up news, indirectly contributing to the deaths of others, is now a TV celebrity appearing on game shows and trivia programmes.
